ABOUT THE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH CSP

The Public Issues Community Service Program is designed to actively connect members with effective projects and activities relating to civic and social responsibilities. This Program focuses on citizenship, military personnel, emergency and disaster preparedness, and safety and crime prevention.

In October 2019, the Public Issues CSPs Program featured a presentation by Ed Thiebe and Carol Purcell of the Going Home Coalition. The speakers detailed how this coalition of multiple organizations in the Clearwater area is working to reduce homelessness in our community.

October was a busy month! The CSP organized a field trip to the South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility in St. Petersburg. The ladies who attended got an educational talk and a tour of the facility, which is the largest wastewater treatment plant and resource recovery facility in Pinellas county.

Also in October, CSP members, in support of CCWC President Susan Luce’s project, planted pink dwarf Ixora flowering shrubs outside one of the Kimberly Home’s houses. The CSP also participated in the GFWC public policy initiative to make calls or write emails to United States Senators and Representatives urging passage of the S1831 and H.R. 3265: 3D Printed Gun Safety Act of 2019.

In November and December 2019, in support of the GFWC President Sharon Oliphant’s project, Operation Smile, the CSP raised over $1200.

For the Daisy Grants Fundraiser that was scheduled for March 2020, the CSP adopted Wide, Wide, World as their theme. Members collected assorted items from around the world and created a large basket. As the fundraiser was cancelled due to the pandemic, the basket is waiting for an opportunity to be auctioned.
